The Virginia Museum of Natural History is the state’s natural history museum located in Martinsville, Virginia founded in 1984. The museum has several different award-winning publications, is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, and has more than 22 million items. This includes the first intact stromatolite head ever found in Virginia, which is one of the largest complete ‘heads’ in the world, at over 5 feet in diameter and weighing over 2 tons.
My Thoughts
It was such a pleasure to return to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences for my third visit! There is something special about coming back to a place that has always been so beautiful and inspiring. Every time I walk through the museum, I’m reminded of just how incredible the natural world is and how much there is still to learn and discover.
From the incredible fossil displays and prehistoric life exhibits to the modern wildlife and natural history collections, the museum has something for everyone. Even after visiting twice before, it was still wonderful to explore the exhibits again and take in all the amazing specimens and displays. It’s always nice to see a familiar place with fresh eyes and find something new to appreciate.
I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to visit the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences for a third time, and I hope it won’t be my last. It truly is a beautiful museum, and every visit is an experience I look forward to and cherish.
