A NEW Spinosaurus Species Just Dropped — Meet Spinosaurus mirabilis (“Hell Heron”)

Scientists have officially described a brand new species of Spinosaurus — Spinosaurus mirabilis — from the Sahara Desert in Niger. This massive predatory dinosaur lived about 95 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous and may have hunted fish in shallow rivers like a giant prehistoric heron. What makes Spinosaurus mirabilis so unique is its huge scimitar-shaped head crest, which could have been brightly colored and used for display. Fossils discovered in 2019 and 2022 revealed multiple crests and skull fragments that confirmed this was a completely new species within the famous spinosaurid family. This discovery is particularly exciting because it’s the first clear new species of Spinosaurus described in more than a century, and it may change how scientists think these dinosaurs lived and hunted. Instead of being fully aquatic predators, this species may have been a semi-aquatic wader stalking fish in inland river systems deep in the Sahara. In this video we break down the discovery, the fossils, and what Spinosaurus mirabilis tells us about the evolution of spinosaurs.📄 Original scientific paper:https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adx5486If you love prehistoric life, deep-time ecosystems, and behind-the-scenes paleo stories, you’re going to enjoy this conversation!👍 Like the video if you learned something new💬 Drop a comment with your favorite Triassic animal🔔 Subscribe for more interviews with paleontology creators and scientists🎟️ PREHISTORIC LIVE 2026 — GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!Happening May 1st and 2nd, this event is going to be unforgettable. Nanotyrannus lethaeus: The Forgotten Tyrant King

Nanotyrannus lethaeus: The Forgotten Tyrant King

For decades, paleontologists have argued over one question: Was Nanotyrannus a real dinosaur—or just a young Tyrannosaurus rex? In this episode, we settle the debate once and for all.

Join us as we present the definitive evidence confirming that Nanotyrannus lethaeus was a distinct tyrannosaur species. From its unique skull proportions and slender build to its specialized teeth and braincase structure, Nanotyrannus stands apart from T. rex in ways that can no longer be ignored.

We’ll examine:

🦴 The anatomy that separates Nanotyrannus from T. rex juveniles

🧬 Bone histology proving mature growth stages

📜 The fossil record — from the Cleveland Skull to “Jane”

🔬 The newest research redefining late Cretaceous tyrannosaurs

Forget the “juvenile rex” theory — the evidence is in, and Nanotyrannus lethaeus earns its rightful place in dinosaur history as the swift, intelligent predator of the Hell Creek ecosystem.
